Aikido for adults
Our adult classes focus on proper technique and mental focus as well as overall fitness and flexibility. Calgary Aikikai welcomes persons of any age, gender or ability. New students may come and watch any class, and may also participate in up to four classes free of charge to see how they like it.
Calgary Aikikai
Since 1980, Calgary Aikikai has trained hundreds of students in this martial art that is both a practical self-defence and form of creative movement. We believe that the best way to learn is through enjoyable and spirited practice, with an emphasis on traditional techniques.
Hello members and aikidoka! As I’m sure you know with the new provincial re-opening plan we are able to practice again! We are currently planning to get back on the mat in the fall and in the interim let’s take advantage of summer and continue to practice in the park!
Outdoor practices will be in the green space just south of our dojo at River Park Church on Wednesdays at 7pm and on Saturdays at 10am, for 90 minutes. We are not charging fees for these classes.
If the weather is inhospitable, we’ll move online to our usual Google Meet address: meet.google.com/kai-xroi-ztu
You can always check our Facebook group before arriving to see if the class has moved online due to poor weather.
Please continue to check here for details or sign up for our newsletter to receive our emails about our official re-opening this fall on September 11th! Enjoy your summer!
A big heart felt congratulations to Chris Hayward Sensei on his recent promotion to Godan! A well deserved promotion for one of our longest serving members and the dojo-cho of Calgary Aikikai! Chris puts his heart and soul into our organization and is always the first one there to set things up and always willing to lend a helping hand. He has tirelessly given much of his spare time taking on responsibilities on and off the mat. Thank you Sensei for your dedication to aikido, your thoughtful skilled instruction, and most of all your friendship to all who practice aikido across the world.
