Calgary Aikikai COVID-19 Response

UPDATED Mar 21, 2020

Dear Calgary Aikikai members,

As an organization, the safety of our membership is absolutely our highest priority.

In light of recent developments regarding the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, we have made the decision to suspend the Adults’ and Childrens’ programmes, effective immediately.

All classes will be suspended until further notice. Please check back here for further details as this situation develops.

We are following the lead of the Calgary Board of Education, which has suspended all extra-curricular activities due to their higher risk of cross-contamination from populations from mixed schools, along with contact with outside family members.

For additional information we recommend visiting and keeping up to date with the latest at the Government of Alberta’s website on COVID-19.

As well, we are not able to take appropriate measures to elevate the sanitation level of our facility, since we share it with several other groups. Since we cannot guarantee the safety of the building, we have come to the conclusion that our only choice is to suspend all our activities.

Since Aikido training is an activity with close bodily contact the the risk of virus transmission is very high, we request that anyone who has traveled out-of-country stay away from the dojo for 14 days after returning to Canada. This policy will be re-evaluated as required. And of course, if you or your child experience even the slightest symptoms of cold or fever, please stay at home.

We hope that the virus levels will go down soon and we can resume our practice in the near future. If this does not happen, we will be looking at how to extend your membership fees. Thank you for your understanding.

Take care of you and your loved ones and we look forward to seeing you on the mat soon!
